Fairfield, Hocking and Pickaway Grazing School

 The Fairfield, Hocking and Pickaway County Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and Ohio Forage and Grassland Council will be hosting a Pasture Management Workshop/ Grazing School/ Pasture for Profit Program at the Fairfield County Service Center. 

The Service Center  is located on at 831 College Ave , Lancaster, Ohio 43130.  The Grazing School will be Tuesday October 21st, and Wednesday October 22nd, 2014 6:00 to 9:00pm concluding Saturday October 25th, 2014 starting at 9:00AM and ending at Noon.  Saturday will be an outside pasture walk.
The sessions will cover setting your goals and objectives, evaluating your resources, understanding plant growth, grazing economics, forage species selection, developing contingency plans for drought, mud and deep snow, soil pasture fertility, and fencing and livestock watering systems.

Producers need to register by October 17th, 2014, by contacting the Fairfield SWCD office at 740-653-8154, or at their office; 831 College Ave , Suite B, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.  A registration fee of $30 per person will include materials, Pasture for Profit notebook, Pasture Stick, and refreshments.  Please contact your local SWCD or NRCS office for an agenda and registration form.


The program will provide valuable information in a fun atmosphere that can be used to ensure that the grazing operation on your farm is environmentally responsible as well as economically viable.  If you are a farmer or a person with an interest in grazing management-pasture ecosystems plan to attend.  

The benefits from attending include additional points in the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service  EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program) ranking process, increased knowledge about forage plant growth, improvement of the environmental quality; cleaner air and water; healthier soil, plant and animals.  Learn ways to increase net profit for your farming operation.
